Where the numbers in QuizBold come from, what each source contributes, and how to reach us.

1. Where the data comes from

QuizBold is built on publicly available football facts from several sources. We compare the sources with each other, so that one source’s mistake does not end up as a wrong answer in the game.

Matches from the recent seasons come from the competitions’ official match data. The older seasons are put together from the archives below. Where two sources disagree, we keep both and let the events of the match itself decide.

QuizBold uses no licensed analytics data: no expected goals (xG), no shot maps and no player ratings.

2. What we cover

The figures below are counted every night from the same matches, lineups and players the games take their answers from. They grow as new matches come in.

3. The sources

Each source below supplies something you can meet in the game. The names are spelled the way the sources spell them.

  • Superstats.dk

    What we use it for
    The Danish Superliga from 1991 to 1999: line-ups and goals.
    Terms
    Publicly reachable pages. The source publishes no terms of reuse.

  • Transfermarkt

    What we use it for
    Line-ups, player statistics and league tables from before 2001.

  • RSSSF

    What we use it for
    English league tables and champions from before 1992.

  • Wikipedia / Wikidata

    What we use it for
    Championships, player names and dates of birth.
    Terms
    Wikipedia text is CC BY-SA 4.0 and Wikidata is CC0 1.0. We use single facts only and copy no prose.

  • football-data.co.uk

    What we use it for
    Referees, attendances and cross-checks of results.
    Terms
    Freely available data sets. The source asks for no credit, and we name it anyway.

  • OpenLigaDB

    What we use it for
    Cross-checks of goals in the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, plus selected seasons of other competitions, among them the World Cup, the Euros, the Champions League and the Premier League.

    Open Database License (ODbL 1.0). The database is maintained by a community.

  • footballsquads via footballcsv

    What we use it for
    Squad lists, so we can recognise the same player at different clubs, and shirt numbers in older Superliga line-ups.

    The squad lists come from footballsquads.co.uk through the copy the footballcsv project has published under CC0 1.0. That does not change footballsquads.co.uk’s own terms: non-commercial use is allowed with credit, and commercial use needs express permission.

  • ESPN

    What we use it for
    Line-ups in qualifying matches.

    What we use it for
    Line-ups in international matches from 1930 to 2016.

  • Soccerbase

    What we use it for
    The English divisions from 2001 to 2004.

  • NIFS

    What we use it for
    Cross-checks of goals in Nordic matches.

  • Mart Jürisoo / international_results

    What we use it for
    Cross-checks of results and scorers at the World Cup, the European Championship and in the Nations League.

  • Wyscout / soccer-logs

    What we use it for
    Cross-checks of cards, substitutions and assists in the five big leagues in 2017/18, the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2016.

    CC BY 4.0. The dataset was published alongside Pappalardo & Massucco, Scientific Data 6:236 (2019), and is built on Wyscout’s own match data.

  • BDFutbol

    What we use it for
    Scorers in Spanish, French, Italian and German matches.

  • F.C. København

    What we use it for
    Shirt numbers in F.C. København’s older line-ups, from the club’s own list of shirt numbers.

  • agf-statistik.dk

    What we use it for
    Shirt numbers for AGF’s older line-ups, from the site’s list of shirt numbers since 1982.

  • BrondbyStats

    What we use it for
    Shirt numbers for both sides in Brøndby’s matches from the mid-1990s.

4. Club crests

The club crests in the game come from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons.

Where the licence behind a crest asks for a credit, the credit is here:

The other crests are the clubs' own marks, shown so that a club can be recognised. If you hold the rights to one and want it gone, we remove it, and the board shows the club’s name instead.

5. When something is wrong

We note every correction: what it said before, what it says now, which source the fact came from, and what settled it. That is why an error usually shows up in one place rather than across every game at once.

6. Rights holders

If you hold rights in one of the sources above, you can ask us to remove the material we have from you. Tell us which pages or which material it concerns, so that we remove the right thing.
